King Hamad General Hospital is located at Busaiteen, Muharraq. The Client is the Ministry of Health and the Client Facilitator is the Ministry of Works and Housing. The site for the hospital is located on reclaimed land adjacent to the road between the airport and Manama and has close proximity to the sea with a good sea view.
The Australian Hospital Design Group (AHDG) is the Consultant team responsible for the design of the $130 million building and comprises CS+T Architects Pty Ltd., Connell Mott MacDonald Engineers, Davis Langdon Australia Quantity Surveyors, Denton Corker Marshall Design Architects and Ismail Khonji Associates Engineers.
The main contract is undertaken as a joint venture between Bahrain’s Nass Contracting and the Burhan International Construction Company of Kuwait while the Mechanical and Electrical Services Contract is jointly held by EMCO W.L.L and Nass Electrical.
Winning the Mechanical and Electrical works reflects the industry’s confidence and regard for the quality and reliability of our work.
The main plant area is at the eastern end of the hospital, arranged around the level 1 Service yard. A Ministry of Electricity and Water (MOEW) 66kV District sub-station will be separately constructed in an enclosure opening off the service yard. The chiller plant is located at the roof on level 4 and the building is fully air-conditioned with nominated areas exhausted.
All service infrastructure provided to the hospital will be in line with the world’s best practice, to ensure optimum facilities for patients and staff.

The overall site is approximately 227,000sq meters and is shared with the Medical University of Bahrain (MUB).
The Hospital Building has been aesthetically designed with no ‘back” and will take advantage of the views, providing Bahrain with a landmark facility of high international standard.
The Hospital is designed in 3 blocks separated by internal open courtyards and linked at the upper levels (2, 3 and 4) by two major parallel hospital streets which run east – west.
